The interior retains much of the grand architecture, including towering columns, sweeping arches and filigree ironwork. You can even take a peek at the 20,000-pound door of the original bank vault. The 179 non-smoking rooms, spread out over 10 floors, are filled with creature comforts like plush beds with high-end linens. The well-lit workstations have ergonomic chairs and access to Wi-Fi for a fee. There's a casual eatery and a pub serving microbrewery specialties, and scores of other options are on the nearby streets. Tropical plants ring the heated indoor pool and hot tub, and a fitness room has weight-training and cardio equipment.

The Courtyard by Marriott is part of Penn Quarter, a quickly gentrifying area filled with restaurants and clubs, as well as museums, galleries and theaters.
